Christmas in Barbados
The Christmas season is always a beautiful time of the year in Barbados! Barbadians all over the world long for these shores at this time and plan to make their way ‘home’ for the holidays. Visitors will also come, they escape the cold climes, to enjoy a tropical sunshine Christmas with extraordinary beaches and sunsets.
CHRISTMAS IN THIS CARIBBEAN LAND
Christmas in Barbados is a time when family and friends get together; it is a time for gatherings and spending quality time; it is also a time of real cultural exchange!
The lead up to Christmas typically starts in October/November and this is affirmed as Bajans would say, “I can feel Christmas in the air!” All Bajans can attest to the change in the atmosphere that is synonymous with Christmas. From there it is game on!
The ‘spirit of Christmas,’ as the islanders would refer to it, seems to take over activities, as Bajans slowly make plans and preparations toward the build up to Christmas and the attendant activities that mark the season.
The stores, shops, hairdressing salons, barber shops, toy stores are buzzing as shoppers choose Christmas gifts, bringing good cheer to the people in their lives! Children enjoy the preparations and look forward with great anticipation to gifts they know will be theirs on Christmas day. Christmas lights and decorations adorn stores, houses, roundabouts, along with trees and bushes across the land. What a beautiful time of the year in a tropical paradise!
THINGS TO DO AT CHRISTMAS
This season has always been one of if not the biggest traditional event on the Bajan calendar of things to do on the island. Lickrish Food Tours invites you to be on the look out for events like Barbados Adventure Race – December 3 -4, Run Barbados will put on a Half Marathon, Marathon and – 5-K Walk/Hike, all on December 10. Check your hotel concierge for other events like Carols By Candlelight – December 11, daily walking food and historic tours through our beautiful capital city of Bridgetown. It is a wonderful time to get out, see, explore, and enjoy Barbados!
